We have been following the case in Minnesota where a father left his son to head to California in search of financial help. The man recently faced a jury in a trial to determine whether or not he was guilty of child neglect. Sadly, the verdict was not what he had hoped for.

On Jan. 25, a six-person jury found the 60-year-old man guilty of child neglect. With the conviction, it is unlikely that the man will ever have child custody of his 11-year-old son.

The father, an architect, was struggling to find work. Because of the lack of income, the man was going to lose his home to foreclosure. On July 18, the father left the young boy alone in their home to go to California. He left a note for his son instructing him to go to a neighbor's home where he assumed they would take care of him. However, when the boy went to the neighbor's home, they called the police.

The father was found in late August living in a van in California. He was extradited back to Minnesota to face the charges against him.

During the trial, prosecutors said the man intentionally abandoned his son. Sadly, if he had dropped the boy off at the neighbor's home, he would not have committed a crime.

The man has been unable to see his son for the past five months. Although it does not appear he will face jail time, it is unlikely that he will get to be with his son.

The 11-year-old boy is currently living with his great aunt. Despite the guilty verdict, the man says he will continue to fight for his son.
